Bio

Christina Apathy is a theatre artist, independent producer, actress, writer, singer, dancer, dialect coach, adventurer, and seeker. She is a 2009 recipient of a national Theatre Communications Group (TCG) Fox Foundation Resident Actor fellowship and holds an MFA from New York University.

Christina has appeared in over 50 productions off-Broadway, on tour and at major regional theatres across the country including the Kennedy Center, the Guthrie, the Acting Company, the Actors Studio, Seattle Rep and the McCarter with directors such as Joe Dowling and Tony-winner, Mary Zimmerman.  In Juneau, Christina has performed with Generator Theatre Company and Theatre in the Rough; she is an associate artist with Perseverance Theatre.

Born and raised in Englewood, a small beach town on the Gulf Coast of Florida, Christina graduated Salutatorian of her high-school class and went on to attend Rollins College. From there she was selected as one of 17 students from over 800 applicants to attend the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Acting Program at New York University under the careful eyes of Arena Stage founder, Zelda Fichandler, and master teacher, Ron Van Lieu.

Passionate about understanding the human condition and embodying it onstage, Christina approaches a role through analysis, images, instinct, movement, rhythm, language and laughter.  She loves foreign dialects and cultural immersion.  Christina thrives and prefers to work in the simultaneous trust and risk-taking established through ensemble.

On a three-year long TCG grant awarded to actors of “Extraordinary Potential,” Christina backpack traveled to 11 countries across Eastern and Western Europe in 5 weeks attending the Sibiu International Theatre Festival in Romania and the Festival Internacional de Marionetas e Formas Animadas in Lisbon, Portugal.  She also attended a Bollywood musical by the Kneehigh Theatre based out of Cornwall, UK.  In 2010, Christina spent three weeks at the Visthar Center for Social Peace and Justice in India with Theatre Mitu, learning kalaripaiattu martial arts and mohiniyattam dance and on the east coast for a week studying voice with Catherine Fitzmaurice.  As the culminating project on this grant, she produced and solo-acted The K of D, an urban legend by Laura Schellhardt.

Throughout her career, Christina has held an array of interesting jobs from cook in an organic food co-op, to staffer in the office of an Alaskan State Senator from the bush, to an admin assistant at the MOMA to an algebra tutor. These detours have added a richness and dimension to her acting.  When not engaged in cultivating a spirit of serious play onstage, or earning a living, she devotes energy to conserving the earth.

Christina’s love and respect for our natural environment fueled by a life in Southeast Alaska have lead to more frequent hikes and treks to explore the wilderness. She is also quite fond of outdoor sports such as competitive swimming, soccer and biking and likes practicing archery and yoga.

Christina has published and performs poetry.  She opened for Hawaii's poet laureate in 2016, and Mermelada y Tostada rode around on Capitol Transit for a year.  She fronted an alternative funk band, frequently called ‘Sweetcheeks,' and occasionally she writes lyrics.

In 2019, Christina earned her Master of Arts in Teaching- Secondary Education from the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau with endorsements in English and Theatre.

“I want to revive virtuosity- the fusion of technical mastery with aesthetics- to inspire and dig deep. I am fiercely attracted to theatre that spins silk between people, the land and this magical but temporal moment – mythical stories that ripple and resonate immediately and globally; the Alchemy of Art.”

“Eternally curious about many things, I like to experience life first-hand, messy and up close. Creating helps me stay grounded and hope-filled.”
